Characteristics/Description: The LBS is used to boresight (align) the open sights, Thermal Weapon Sight, and other Day or Night Vision devices to the various weapons systems to which they are attached.
The AN/PEM-1 has replaced the LBS. The only difference is the AN/PEM-1 has a low power laser setting.
The LBS comes with 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and .50 cal attachable mandrels. 40mm adapters are available for the M203 and MK-19.
The LAV-25 is an all-terrain, all-weather vehicle with night capabilities. It provides strategic mobility to reach and engage the threat, tactical mobility for effective use of fire power, fire power to defeat soft and armored targets, and battlefield survivability to carry out combat missions. It is air transportable via C-130, C-141, C-5 and CH-53 E. When combat loaded there are 210 ready rounds and 420 stowed rounds of 25 mm ammunition as well as 400 ready rounds and 1200 stowed rounds of 7.62mm. There are 8 ready rounds and 8 stowed rounds of smoke grenades. A supplementary M240E1 7.62mm machine gun can be pintle-mounted at the commander's station in the turret. The LAV-25 is fully amphibious with a maximum of 3 minutes preparation.
The LAV-AT is an all-terrain, all-weather vehicle with night capabilities. It is air transportable via C-130, C-141, C-5 and CH-53 E. This vehicle provides mobile, armored, accurate and destructive fire from defiled positions against heavy armored target and fixed fortifications. With its mobility, it can keep pace with it's applicable assigned military unit to provide highly mobile, protected anti-armor fire support to light infantry and reconnaissance forces, and to provide a capability to defeat heavy, armored targets at long ranges. The vehicle can be used in both the defensive and offensive roles. Its primary weapon station is the Emerson turret. When combat loaded there are 2 ready and 14 stowed TOW II ATGMs as well as 200 ready rounds and 800 stowed rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. There are 8 ready rounds and 8 stowed rounds of smoke grenades. The missiles can be loaded under armor. The vehicle can be made fully amphibious within 3 minutes.
The TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire command-link guided) Missile System consists of a tripod, traversing unit, missile guidance set, launch tube, optical sight, battery assembly and any of five missile variations. The TOW missile system also includes a thermal sight that provides a capability for operations at night, in reduced visibility, and in a countermeasure environment. TOW missiles are all-up rounds encased in a disposable container.
The TOW system is mounted on various platforms including the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, the improved TOW vehicle, the Humvee and the AH-1F Cobra helicopter. In addition, it can be operated in a dismounted ground mode. The TOW is guided to its target merely by the gunner keeping the cross-hairs on the target. Corrective information is sent to the missile by two thin wires that deploy in flight.
Since initial fielding, five variations of the missile and two variations of the TOW subsystem have been fielded. In FY92 the direct-attack TOW 2A missile was replaced as the standard production missile by the top-attack TOW 2B missile - both are in use.
The ongoing TOW Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS) is a material change to the current ground TOW 2 system that will increase target detection, recognition and identification ranges.
The Shoulder-launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) is a versatile, lightweight and lethal weapon system. SMAW, employed by the United States Marine Corps for more than twenty years, has proven performance in combat situations, easily demolishing bunkers, breaching fortifications, and defeating armored vehicles. The man-portable SMAW is exceedingly accurate and reliable, exhibiting an average hit probability greater than 90 percent on a 1 x 2 meter target at combat ranges.
The LW155 is the world's first 155mm howitzer with a flyweight of less than 9800 pounds with digital fire control. Designed as artillery support for the Marine Corps and Army Light Forces, the LW155 is air transportable by medium or heavy lift helicopters, the V-22 tilt rotor aircraft, and other tactical transport aircraft. The LW155 offers greater ground mobility and improved reaction times, compared with the greater than 16,000 pound M198 Howitzer it is designed to replace. It also offers significant advantages in the areas of automatic breech opening and primer feed, and crew ergonomics.
The M115 Boresight is used for boresighting the 60mm light weight company mortar. The boresight is attached over the end of the mortar barrel during the boresighting process.
The Boresight Kit, w/Adapter, is designed to be utilized by Ordnance Marines to correctly and accurately boresight various weapons when they are mounted aboard their designated vehicles.
